Axial SCX24

Axial SCX24 Upgrade Guide

This is not designed to be the definitive guide to upgrading your truck. It's here as a basic guide to show how to improve performance on this truck. Upgrades are personal to the driver and you should do what YOU WANT and not what you read here or on forums. This is designed to help beginners who are unsure what to do. It does not take into account any scale accessories you may wish to add to your truck.

Upgrade Servo

The stock servo is very weak and will give up fairly quickly. This should be upgraded with a more powerful servo. At the same time you will need to replace the servo tray with one that can take a bigger servo or you will need to trim and cut the stock one.

Example servos include Emax, Injora 11kg, Reefs 99 micro.

Upgrade Tyres

The stock tyres are not very good (except those that come with the Power Wagon) and traction will increase significantly when you replace the tyres with a better compound.

Example tyres include: Proline Super Swampers and Injora 62*22mm.

Replace Wheels

Some SCX24's come with plastic beadlocks and these can be reused when you replace your tyres. Some models have glue on tyres and you will need to replace your wheels when replacing tyres.

The main benefit to replacing wheels beyond cosmetics is weight. There are many brass options available and these are a quick way of improving performance by lowering your centre of gravity. Injora is your best bet for these.

Brass front knuckles

Weighted front knuckles are used to move weight forward and lower. You should be aiming for a 60/40% split front to rear for optimum performance.

Replace Steering Linkage

The standard steering linkage is very sloppy and can bend easily. Replacing this with a metal version will eliminate the slop and stiffen the steering, making it more precise.

You can also get brass versions that can help move the centre of gravity forward.

Upgrade Motor

The stock motor is very weak and will often stall out.

Replace with a larger version with more torque. This can be brushed or you can get brushless versions (although these are harder to get in the UK). DO NOT buy the spectrum SCX24 brushless motor, it is no good for crawling and worse than the stock motor. If you want brushless, then look at Furitek. Our recommendation is the Injora 050 motor (pictured).

Upgrade Links

The standard links are made of plastic and can bend. Replacing them with aluminium or brass versions can stiffen up the car.

You can also purchase high clearance versions to aid in breakover ability.

Add Overdrive Gears

Adding overdrive can assist in climbing and can help to hold down the back axle when descending.

The downside to overdrive is it affects side hilling.

If the truck is mainly used for trailing, this upgrade is not needed. However, if you are looking for a competitive advantage, this may help.

Remember, this is only a guide and you should feel free to do what you want with your truck.
